Natsource’s Transaction Services Unit has developed one of the largest organizations in the world that assists counterparties to structure transactions for environmental commodities and renewable energy. The unit’s transaction services experts are located in Europe, North America and Japan, and structure transactions for reductions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) created by projects, GHG allowances, renewable energy certificates (RECs), renewable obligation certificates (ROCs), allowances of sulfur dioxide (SO2), and allowances and credits of nitrogen oxide (NOx). To date, Natsource has arranged emissions transactions with a net market value of over $7.5 billion.
Greenhouse Gases
A pioneer in the GHG market, Natsource has arranged many of the early transactions in the emerging market and continues to play an active role in national, regional and international GHG Markets including the UK ETS, EU ETS and CDM Markets. In 2004, Natsource arranged a multi-million tonne transaction of candidate Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) created by a project with a baseline approved by the CDM Executive Board. In 2002, Natsource arranged the first forward swap of UK and Danish GHG allowances, and in 2001, Natsource structured one of the first allowance transactions in the UK and Danish GHG emissions trading programs.
Renewable Energy Certificates
Natsource is a market leader in arranging transactions of RECs in North America and Europe. Natsource has arranged several pioneering trades including one of the first unbundled trades of Texas RECs and an early sale of Texas RECs to both out-of-state and international buyers. Natsource also structured early RECs transactions in the Pennsylvania Jersey Maryland (PJM) region of the U.S. and one of the first multi-year forward contracts for REC delivery in the Northeast U.S. In Europe, Natsource has arranged numerous trades of UK Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs), Dutch Green Certificates, and European RECs.
Conventional Air Pollutants
Natsource has arranged a significant volume of transactions for emissions permits for conventional air pollutants including NOx allowances in the SIP Call program, the Houston Galveston cap-and-trade program and RECLAIM, and SO2 allowances in the U.S. Acid Rain Program.
