28 May 2009 Jack Cogen was recently one of 11 new experts on environmental markets appointed to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Energy and Environmental Market Advisory Committee. The EEMAC, which includes previous representatives as well as 11 new experts on environmental markets, will focus for the first time on carbon dioxide and other emissions trading markets. The Committee will also examine energy markets and discuss legislation pending on Capitol Hill to regulate the role of speculators in commodity markets.
Mr. Cogen is the founder of Natsource and has been President and CEO since 1994. From 1991 to 1994, Mr. Cogen created and managed the Commodities Group at Euro Brokers Capital Markets, Inc. At Euro Brokers, Mr. Cogen oversaw the creation of the first over-the-counter natural gas swap brokerage desk. Between 1981 and 1990, Mr. Cogen was employed by The Chase Manhattan Bank (National Association) as Global Risk Manager of the Commodity Risk Management Group. Mr. Cogen is the Chairman of the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) and has also been an IETA Board member for many years. He is also a founding officer of the Energy Brokers Association. Mr. Cogen is a regular moderator and speaker at conferences on the global carbon market and has authored and co-authored a number of studies and reports on the market. In 2004, Mr. Cogen was inducted into the Energy Risk Magazine Hall of Fame.
