Advisory Services

As senior government officials and in positions in the private sector, Natsource Advisory and Research staff have participated in the development of policies that have created markets for greenhouse gases (GHG) and conventional air pollutants. Our staff participated in the development of the first project-based mechanism designed to reduce GHG emissions, and helped to negotiate the rules governing the project-based mechanisms incorporated in the Kyoto Protocol. Staff have also been involved in the design of the trading programs that created markets for sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) to reduce pollution that cause acid rain and smog.

Climate Change
Advisory and Research staff assist the company’s global base of clients in Europe, Canada and the U.S. to assess the economic risks imposed by climate change policy and to develop strategies to manage risk and capture opportunities. We also work with clients to help them understand the impacts of policy design on market performance and provide them with intelligence regarding market evolution and pricing for greenhouse gas commodities.  Advisory staff also use their regulatory expertise to help clients structure emission reduction projects and estimate the value of emissions assets.

Renewable Energy
Advisory and Research staff assist major corporations to develop components of their renewable energy and renewable energy certificate (REC) strategies, and has performed systematic reviews and analyses of emerging REC markets in the U.S. and Europe.  Natsource also helps developers assess the value of electricity generated from renewable sources and associated environmental attributes.  An understanding of these values enables developers to evaluate project opportunities, develop financing strategies, and negotiate power purchase agreements.

U.S Conventional Air Pollutants
Advisory and Research staff utilize their policy and market expertise to assist clients to understand potential outcomes of rulemakings and legislative debates, the impacts of policies on market behavior, and the dynamics that could affect current and future values of SO2 and NOx compliance instruments.

Natsource’s Advisory and Research Services Unit works with private firms, investments funds, governments and international financial institutions to provide risk assessment and risk management services, regulatory analyses, and market and pricing information.
