This event was organized entirely by students of Los Altos High School, Earth Week and demonstrated the ability of students to educate themselves and their peers.
This spring four eighth grade science classes at East Side Middle School in New York City studied natural disasters. As part of their project, they also explored whether or not global warming was contributing to these disasters.
At the end of the project they were treated to a slide show on climate change, presented by Fran Morrill of Natsource's Environmental Action Desk. Each student was assigned the task of conducting a home energy audit in order to determine how many pounds/tons of CO2 emissions they were responsible for.
Several days later two students held a bake sale, the proceeds of which were used by the eighth grade to buy greenhouse gas credits.
